COMMUNITY OF AUZANGATE TREK 6D/5N

This trek takes place at 4000 meters above sea level, reaching 5,200 m.a.s.l. at the mountain passage called "Alto Palomani". The trek of the Ausangate snow peak is one of the most famous in Cusco, for it was one of the most important "Apus" in Inca times. Nowadays the Ausangate is visited by thousands of tourists, taking its route about six days. The trek is rich with beautiful sightseeing: a combination of glacial lagoons and typical fauna of the heights.

The villages surrounding the Ausangate massif are home to various Quechua speaking indigenous groups, as are the people living in the area of our “community trek”with Machu Picchu visit. On this extraordinary journey we circumnavigate the 20,945-foot Ausangate, one of the most sacred mountains of the Incas, and we travel to Machu Picchu, the most well-known sanctuary of the former Inca Empire. Along the way we have excellent opportunities for cultural exchange, learning about the Inca Empire, high altitude trekking in isolated areas, and chances to ascend unknown peaks to nearly 19,000 feet.

You will also have close encounters with native fauna, such as the marmot like Vizcacha. You will catch sight of a herd of rare Vicuña, a wild relative of the Llama, high Andean birds such as geese, puna ibis, caracara hawks, torrent ducks and the majestic Andean Condor.
